iEat Green Stands in Solidarity with People of All Faiths Against Hate! iEat Green Joins the Long Island Food Conference! Malik Yakini, Co-Founder of the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network Joins Bhavani on PRN!

Hi All,

Everyday, my heart breaks for the despicable displays of hatred that have become so common in our world. We need to foster love, understanding, compassion, and tolerance in all aspects of our lives. I even see it in my food world, where there is little tolerance for the different food choices people make. We need to embrace our differences, our uniqueness, our individuality, while opening our hearts to one another in a gesture of love and understanding. There is no room in this world for hate, other than hating hate itself.

2018 Long Island Food Conference is this Weekend!

I hope you can join us this weekend for what promises to be a full day of engagement with all of your senses. The 2018 Long Island Food Conference is finally here, and we are kicking off the weekend with a pre-conference screening of the award winning documentary film, What the Health, on Friday night at 7:30 pm, at LIU Post’s Hillwood Commons. Then, Saturday morning, our event will continue with registration and breakfast starting at 8am, followed by our keynote speaker, Frances Moore Lappé, author of Diet for a Small Planet, and numerous other books. There will be panels on Food Policy, Food and Climate Change, Food as Medicine, and Growing Food, filled with experts in their field. Other highlights include a full catered lunch, a farmers market, and food related exhibitors throughout the day. Check out the schedule of speakers, and purchase your tickets today. This is an event you don’t want to miss!

My Guest This Week on the Progressive Radio Network!

Malik Kenyatta Yakini is co-founder and the executive director of the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network (DBCFSN). DBCFSN operates D-Town Farm, a seven-acre farm in Detroit that grows more than 30 different fruits, vegetables and herbs. The organization is also spearheading the opening of the Detroit Food Commons and the Detroit People’s Food Co-op in Detroit’s North End. Yakini views the “good food revolution” as part of the larger movement for freedom, justice and equity. He has an intense interest in contributing to the development of an international food sovereignty movement that embraces Black communities in the Americas, the Caribbean and Africa.  Please join me on Thursday for a conversation about the intersection of food, justice and equity in today’s good food movement.
