iEat Green is Sitting In at the Real Truth About Health Conference! The Long Island Food and Film Feast is Coming! Seth Itzkan and Karl Thidemann, Founders of Soil4Climate, Join Bhavani on PRN!

Hi All,

For the past few days, I have been able to stop by the Melville Hilton Hotel, and sit in on some really great lectures from some amazing experts, at the Real Truth About Health Conference. This evening was a panel discussion about Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria, and I got to meet Maryn McKenna, author of Big Chicken, and a past PRN guest of mine. On the panel with her was Dr. David Wallinga, the “Food Dr.” and Senior Health Officer at NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council.) There are many more great speakers still to come, so check out the schedule. Climate expert, James Hanson, Food Revolution Founder, Ocean Robbins, GMO expert, Jeffrey Smith, and of course one of my favorite food heros, Dr. Vandana Shiva, talking about Seeds of Freedom! You don’t want to miss it! If you can’t make it in person, all of the lectures will be available to live stream.

SAVE the DATE for the next LI Food and Film Feast on March 3rd at 6:30 pm at the Cinema Arts Centre. This is our favorite event! iEat Green partners with Slow Food North Shore, The Cinema Arts Centre of Huntington, and NOFA-NY to bring this fun, educational, delicious, sensory evening to the community.

My guests this week on the Progressive Radio Network are Seth Itzkan and Karl Thidemann, the Co-founders and Co-directors of Soil4Climate. Soil4Climate, is a  nonprofit organization that advocates for soil restoration as a climate solution. They promote regenerative land management practices as a way to capture atmospheric carbon and work collaboratively with other climate organizations.

Seth is an environmental futurist investigating innovative means of land management that offer hope for reversing global warming. He is a TEDx speaker on restoring grasslands and with planned grazing. He has consulted for The Boston Foundation, the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and the US Bureau of the Census. He is a graduate of Tufts University, College of Engineering and the Studies of the Future Program at University of Houston-Clear Lake. His private consultancy is Planet-TECH Associates.

Karl is also a Co-founder of Somerville Climate Action. He serves on the board of the Somerville Community Growing Center, which is a quarter-acre urban oasis offering artistic, cultural, and educational programming in an organic garden setting. Karl has experience in the environmental laboratory field, and marketed electric vehicles for the company that evolved out of MIT’s Solar Car Team. His focus is climate communications, including poetry. He holds a B.A. in chemistry from Wesleyan University.

Please join us on Thursday as we have a lively discussion about how we can use cows to regenerate our depleted soil, and sequester carbon from the atmosphere, while upholding our ethical beliefs and vegetarian lifestyle. I believe there is room for both!
