Take Action: Tell the FDA to Lower Sodium Levels in Processed Foods; Help Protect Long Island’s Water!

Unfortunately, many people rely on processed foods as their main source of nutrition. An expert committee from the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine just reviewed the evidence and reaffirmed that the excessive levels of sodium in food put our health at risk from hypertension, heart disease, and stroke. Obviously, cutting out processed foods from your diet would be the best thing to do, but for those who can’t or don’t want to, let’s at least make it a little bit healthier. Tell the Food and Drug Administration it’s time to start cutting down the sodium in our food!

Call Your State Senators and Legislators to Pass the Bill to Protect Our Water!

Last year I sat in the auditorium, as the fertilizer industry convinced our State Environmental Conservation Committee, that we didn’t need to limit sales of water-soluble nitrogen fertilizer on Long Island, even though the nitrogen will make it’s way into our drinking water. Well, now the tides have turned and we have a Democratic Senate and a chance to pass this common sense, Long Island Fertilizer legislation.

Please call Senator Todd Kaminsky. He is Chair of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, and he has the power to bring the fertilizer legislation to the floor of the Senate for a vote. His number in Albany is 518-455-3401.

Then call NYS Assemblyman Steve Englebright. Steve is Chair of the Assembly’s Environmental Conservation Committee in the Assembly, and has the power to bring the legislation to the Assembly floor for a vote. His number in Albany is 518-455-4804.

Both of these men need to know they have your support to go up against the powerful fertilizer industry. We can win this if we all work together!
