Take Action: Tell Congress to Make Climate a Priority in the 2023 Farm Bill!

Every five years, Congress renews the Farm Bill. The last time it was renewed was 2018, so it is up for renewal now. It’s a major piece of legislation that contains provisions for food stamps, disaster aid, as well as agricultural subsidies. With Climate Change at our doorstep, farmers have had to deal with extreme weather conditions, such as drought, floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, and wild fires. Lawmakers are debating how disaster relief programs are structured, and how quickly aid can get to them. Right now, it can be years before farmers see aid after a disaster, and that is too long.

Climate Change is a leading cause of the severe and extreme weather conditions we have been seeing, and reducing our greenhouse emissions would help minimize the destruction. Food and Farming is one of the leading causes of greenhouse emissions, and the Farm Bill has the power to hone that in.

As part of the 2023 Farm Bill, EWG (The Environmental Working Group) is advocating to help farmers reduce greenhouse gas emissions and withstand the extreme weather caused by climate change.
