Take Action: If Your Public School is in a Low Economic Community, Apply for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

Hunger Solutions Just put out this memo:

Adopt Community Eligibility in the 2019-2020 School Year

The New York State Education Department (NYSED) is now accepting applications from School Food Authorities and schools that want to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2019-2020 school year. CEP is a federal option that allows high-poverty schools to offer both breakfast and lunch to all students, at no charge.
CEP is a powerful tool that enables schools to address hunger. CEP improves student access to healthy school meals and simplifies the administrative process so that schools can operate more efficiently and higher-quality school meal programs.

Applications for the 2019-20 school year must be submitted by June 30, 2019, and must be based on April 1, 2019 enrollment and 2018-19 direct certification data.

NYSED has released a memo which includes the application, implementation guidance, list of schools eligible for CEP but not participating, and a list of schools currently participating in CEP. Click here to access the memo.
