In the News: The Report from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Highlights the Urgency of Moving Away from Fossil Fuels!!

On Monday, the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a body of experts convened by the United Nations, put out an emergency warning that unless we move away from fossil fuels NOW, we will be dealing with drastic natural disasters. The dangers of global warming — including worsening floods, droughts, wildfires and ecosystem

collapse — will grow exponentially, effecting all of our lives, especially those living in marginalized communities. Humans have already heated the planet by an average of 1.1 degrees Celsius since the 19th century, largely by burning fossil fuels for energy.

This means nations need to work together to collectively reduce their planet-warming emissions by 43 percent by 2030. That is a huge task, and one that requires politicians to agree to make global warming a priority, and to stop adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere altogether by the early 2050s.
