Hey everyone,

This is really exciting. The Rodale Institute & Organic Farmers Association have partnered to launch a new BIPOC Organic Farmer Micro-Grant program. Applications are open now through March 31st, so don’t wait to apply!

This program is specifically targeted to support small-scale BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) farmers, whether organic, transitioning to organic, or an aspiring organic farmer. The goal of this program is to grow BIPOC farmers in the organic movement and help them succeed.

Who’s Eligible: Any U.S.-based BIPOC farmer or aspiring farmer who is interested in organic production. Applicants will be screened by Rodale Institute and Organic Farmers Association.

Funding Amount: Rodale Institute will fund up to $18,000 per year for projects that meet the programs’ requirements. Individual project budgets should be between $500 and $2,000.

Timeframe: Applications are open January 1-March 31 of each year. Funding decisions will be made by May 31 and funding will be available immediately following approval.

How to Apply: Start the application here and submit to Elaine Macbeth, Rodale Institute Chief Financial Officer, via email or mail. Projects that have a high potential for impact on the individual farm and/or the communities they serve will be given the highest priority. The application is short and streamlined.

Support New York’s First Offshore Wind Farm

Citizen’s Campaign for the Environment is reaching out to all of us to support Long Island’s first wind farm! New York, with our Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act is poised to be a global leader in the fight against climate change, and offshore wind needs to be a part of that plan. On the South Fork of Long Island, there is an increase in energy demand which necessitates either an offshore wind farm, or a new fossil fuel power plant. Obviously, building another fossil fuel plant would be going in the wrong direction, and the wind farm is going in the right direction. To me, it is a “no brainer”! LIPA’s approval of the South Fork Wind Farm allows for the increased energy demand to be achieved with renewable energy and not with a new fossil fuel power station.  This project will bring 130 MW of renewable energy to Long Island.

Your voice is needed! The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) released the draft Environmental Impact Statement and is set to make a decision on whether to move forward with the project by the end of the year. Dozens of studies are already completed to ensure the project is responsibly developed, mitigates potential impacts on wildlife, and protects the coastline.

Now we need you to speak up in support of the South Fork Wind Farm.

Submit public comment to BOEM today. Urge the US Bureau of Ocean Energy Management to ensure the South Fork Wind Farm moves forward quickly and provides reliable, clean power to Long Island.
