iEat Green Welcomes Raul Nieto, The Director of the Itapoa Project in Columbia and Equador! There are Still a Few Spaces Left for the Flower in a Bag Workshop!

My guest this week on the Progressive Radio Network is Raul Nieto, a biologist and the director of The Itapoa Project based in the Choco region of Colombia and Ecuador.

Raul has been working on this project since 1989. The ITAPOA PROJECT combines scientific research, conservation and culture of the region. The goal of the project is to save habitat for amphibians in danger of extinction thru doing research, helping people cultivate organic cacao in deforested areas in order to get a better profit and to stop selling the primary forest trees to logging companies. They are planting African palms and trying to stop the growing of illicit crops, while building cattle ranches for livestock.

They are making chocolate from the cacao, along with other products, and working to find markets for the products.

Another goal of the project is to help connect the people and musical culture of the region to their environment. I hope you can join us on Thursday to learn more about the Itapoa Project.
