iEat Green Shares Interview with the Co-Founders of Healing Meals Community Project!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday, I had a great conversation with the founders of Healing Meals Community Project, Sarah Leathers and Ellen Palmer. Healing Meals Community Project has two missions. They provide healthy organic meals to people in a health crisis, while at the same time, fostering compassion and empowering youth and adult volunteers in their community. Last year, they provided 14,000 organic meals to those in need, and this year, they are in line to provide 20,000 organic meals!

All of the meals are organic, gluten free, dairy free, soy free, and corn free, and are very low in natural sugars or salt. The meals are prepared with volunteers, starting at the age of 14, and they work alongside adult mentors and their Executive Chef. They cook for the entire family for 12 weeks, and the option of extending the program is available for a nominal fee. Each week, the meals are delivered right to the client’s doors by volunteer Delivery Angels, within a 45 minute radius of Bloomfield, CT, where the organization is located. They use local, seasonal, ingredients from farms near by, and they are empowering the volunteers with knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills. It’s a win/win program from the ground up!
