iEat Green Joined the March! Grace Gershuny, Author of “Organic Revolutionary” Joins Bhavani on PRN!

Hi Everyone,

L’Shana Tova and Happy New Year to all those celebrating the Jewish New Year! I celebrated the second day of Rosh Hashana by going into NYC and joining the Climate Justice through Racial Justice March. It was a beautiful day and it felt great to surrounded by other folks who are passionate about protecting Mother Earth and ALL the People who live on it, especially black, brown and indigenous communities, who are most susceptible to the negative impacts of climate change. Unfortunately, the turn out was not huge, but those of us who were there brought plenty of passion, energy, and good will.

Grace Gershuny, Author of “Organic Revolutionary” Joins Bhavani on the Progressive Radio Network.

Grace Gershuny is widely known as an author, educator and organic consultant. In the 1990’s she served on the staff of USDA’s National Organic Program, where she helped write the regulations. She learned much of what she knows through her longtime involvement with the grassroots organic movement, where she organized conferences and educational events and developed an early organic certification program for the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA). A reformed market gardener, Grace still grows her own veggies and chicken in Barnet, Vermont.

She currently teaches in the Green Mountain College online Masters in Sustainable Food Systems program and serves on the Board of the Institute for Social Ecology. She has a Masters in Extension Education from the University of Vermont, with a self-designed concentration in Ecological Agriculture.

I invited Grace back to my show, to talk about the third edition of her book, Organic Revolutionary: A Memoir of the Movement for Real Food, Planetary Healing, and Human Liberation.

Grace is currently doing business as GAIA Services, where she works as an independent organic inspector as well as a consultant for private and non-profit clients on all aspects of organic certification, developing related standards and certification systems, and training programs. I hope you can join us for a lively discussion on the history and future of the organic movement.
