iEat Green is Enlivened by the 2018 Women’s March and the NOFA-NY Winter Conference; Maryn McKenna, Author of the “Big Chicken: The Incredible Story of How Antibiotics Created Modern Agriculture and Changed the Way the World Eats” Joins Bhavani on PRN

Hi Everyone,

In total, more than 1,000,000 people took to the streets across the country this past Saturday! More than 200,000 protesters attended the Women’s March in New York, over 600,000 in Los Angeles, 300,000 in Chicago, and thousands more turned out in Washington, Philadelphia, Austin and hundreds of other cities and towns around the country and the world. They came together in solidarity, to push forward the anti-Trump movement, the Time’s Up and the #MeToo campaigns against sexual harassment, and the Republicans’ attempts to control women’s bodies and defund Planned Parenthood. We are seeing more women getting into politics and challenging the status quo, and the time is ripe for change. We have to keep up the pressure and be patient at the same time. A challenging task, but one we must accomplish!

Also this weekend, NOFANY held their 36th Annual Organic Farming & Gardening Conference and it was a huge success! The theme was Healthy People, Healthy Planet, recognizing the intersection of health and agriculture. I did a cooking demonstration and shared my recipes for a Japanese Stir Fry, an Indian Vegetable Coconut Curry and a Mediterranean Vegetables with Fire Roasted Tomatoes, Olives and Capers. The recipes are all available on my website!

This week, my guest on the Progressive Radio Network will be Maryn McKenna, an independent journalist and author who specializes in public health, global health and food policy. Maryn is a Senior Fellow at the Schuster Institute for Investigative Journalism at Brandeis University and the author of the new book, Big Chicken: The Incredible Story of How Antibiotics Created Modern Agriculture and Changed the Way the World Eats.  Her 2015 TED Talk, “What do we do when antibiotics don’t work any more?“, has been viewed more than 1.5 million times and translated into 32  languages. I am very excited to have Maryn on my show, and I hope you can join us!
