iEat Green Celebrates Valentines Day, Welcomes Back the Long Island CSA Fair and Gears Up for the Food Ed Hub Career Day!

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are having a great start to the new year, and enjoying the mild Winter we are having!  I wanted to let you know about some wonderful things coming up, starting with Valentines Day! This Monday evening, to get your heart ready for a little extra love, there is a special Story Arts event, highlighting some amazing Love Stories. Then on March 5th, iEat Green is once again hosting the Long Island CSA Fair with Slow Food North Shore, NOFA-NY, the Sisters of St. Joseph and Deep Roots Farmers Market from 11am to 3pm in Brentwood. Lastly, on March 8th, the Food Ed Hub is hosting their 2nd Annual Food Ed Career Fair at Columbia’s Teachers College, for young people looking for work in the food arena, and employers looking for help.

Ancient Love Stories

Join five master storytellers as they share radiant tales of love from antiquity. Let your heart be filled as Charlotte Blake Alston tells “Maadi and Siya” a Soninke tale from West Africa, Megan Wells tells “Savitri and Satyavan” from the Mahabharata, Heather Forest tells “Penelope’s Test” from the Odyssey, Milbre Burch tells “Iphis and Ianthe” from Ovid’s Metamorphosis, and Laura Simms  tells “Isis and Osiris” from the Pyramid Texts.

The 2023 Long Island CSA Fair on March 5th from 11am to 3pm at the Sisters of St. Joseph in Brentwood

Calling all foodies and produce lovers! The time to sign up for a share in a CSA- Community
Supported Agricultural programs is now! This is a great opportunity to meet our Long Island farmers, and to learn more about each individual CSA program, allowing you to choose the perfect program that suits your family’s need. Some CSA programs offer just produce, while others have “add on” options like fruit, flowers, cheese, bread, eggs, meat and fish. Community Supported Agriculture supports local farmers by purchasing a weekly share of the harvest and paying up front, giving the farmer the financial support at the beginning of the season when they need it. Some programs offer payment plans so you do not need to pay all up front. Either way, CSA’s are one of the best ways to get fresh organic produce at reasonable and fair price. We all know that eating more fruits and vegetables, and supporting local, sustainable agriculture, is great for your health and that of our planet.

Please join us on March 5th at the Sisters of St. Joseph. For more info, call Bhavani @ 516-238-3616
