iEat Green: An Interview with Nancy Romer

Hi All,

Today, I had the privilege of interviewing Nancy Romer, the founder of the Brooklyn Food Coalition, about her explorations on food sovereignty in the global south. Her most recent trips with Grassroots International to Honduras and Guatemala left her speechless. The people of the small indigenous villages she visited were so proud of their ability to grow their own food and to reclaim what had been taken from them by large corporations. The food sovereignty movement, inspired by the organization La Via Campesina, has over 200 million members and continues to grow stronger.

Next month, Nancy will be traveling to India where she will have the opportunity to see the food sovereignty movement there. In all of these countries, it seems that the leaders of the movements are women, who are responsible for putting food on the table and taking care of their families. To learn more about the food sovereignty movement, listen to the interview below and check out La Via Campesina and Grassroots International’s websites.
