iEat Green: An Interview with Fekkak Mamdouh

This morning, I interviewed?Fekkak Mamdouh, about his work in co-founding the?Restaurant Opportunities Centers United, (ROC United.) This is an organization that supports the voices of the disenfranchised restaurant worker. It is an organization that is lobbying for fair wages, paid sick days and health benefits for workers. They are doing such important work! We all eat out, and when we do, we want to know that the people handling our food are healthy. However, if a restaurant worker is afraid of being fired if they call in sick, or if they can’t afford to do without a days pay, they are going to come into work, and handle our food.? Also, as President Obama said, if a person works hard, at a full time job, they should be able to make enough money to live a descent life, out of poverty. That is not the case for most restaurant workers who work in the back of the house. To get involved, go to the website;?www.The WelcomeTable.net?and sign the petitions and upload the app,?ROC National Diners Guide,?to find out what restaurants are treating their workers fair, and where you can dine with a clear conscience. Please listen to my interview with Fekkak Mamdouh, and read the book, by his co-founder Saru Jayaraman,??Behind the Kitchen Door
