Monday evening was the screening of Gasland 2 at the Cinema Arts Center in Huntington. Eric Weltman, from Food and Water Watch,?was our guest speaker, and he shared with us the work they are doing, along with New Yorkers Against Fracking, to raise public awareness of the dangers associated with fracking, so that we can build a strong coalition to keep fracking out of New York State. The film is a powerful documentary on how the gas industry’s representation of Hydraulic Fracking as a clean, safe, and an alternative to oil, is not true, and in fact, the process pollutes the environment, contaminates our water, ruins towns, leaks methane, and makes people sick. If you haven’t seen the film yet, you owe it to yourself to watch it. It’s quite depressing, but an important film. It highlights the corruption within?our government and the ?Environmental Protection Agency (EPA,) and demonstrates our governments commitment to big business and money in their pockets, rather than the health of the public and our land. So far, Governor Cuomo has not approved fracking in N.Y State., but we need to keep up the pressure, so that he doesn’t also succumb to corporate interests, with little regard for his constituients! There will be a big rally at the Democratic Convention on May 22nd, here on Long Island at?the Hilton Hotel in Melville, so keep checking my website for details, and please plan on joining us.

This week, my guest on the Progressive Radio Network is Jeffrey Smith, an expert, and a leader in the fight to remove GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms) from our food system. We hear a lot about the fight to get GMO’s labeled, and our “Right to Know” what’s in our food, but wouldn’t it be wonderful if we could even take it one step further, and remove GMO’s from our food system entirely! Jeffrey Smith is an expert on the subject and the author of the book, Seeds of Deceptions, and the producer of the documentary film, Genetic Roulette:The Gamble of Our Lives.? By the way, Genetic Roulette is screening this Saturday, at The Waldorf School of Garden City, on Long Island. The film shows the scientific evidence that connects the ingesting of GMO’s to increased gastrointestinal disorders, allergies, inflammatory diseases, and infertility, and it’s increased danger to children. It is also an in-depth expos??of Monsanto’s connections within our government, and how the USDA and FDA ignore the evidence and growing health concerns, caused by GMO’s, to side with big industry. Similar to the corruption taking place within the fracking industry, our food system has been bought out by the likes of Monsanto and Syngenta, along with the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA), where our governmental agencies care more about keeping corporations happy, then the health of the people. This is a subject that I am passionate about, and I hope you will join our conversation, as Jeffrey Smith shares with us some of the latest studies on GMO’s and together, we explore the growing movement to label these ingredients in our foods and what each of us can do to help win our “Right to Know!”
