An Interview with Acupuncturist & Beekeeper, Frederique Keller

Hi Everybody,

What another amazing week! We started the week on Tuesday, with a screening of One Track Heart, the documentary film about Krishna Das, followed by a Q & A with Krishna Das and an Indian Food reception. The love and 2013-10-24 12.40.27energy that was present that evening, completely filled the Cinema, and it was a”high” for everyone that was lucky enough to be there! The following evening was the NY Coalition for Healthy School Food’s Gala, with over 30 restaurants and food establishments providing delicious, gourmet, Vegan Food to hundreds of people celebrating the introduction of more plant based foods in New York’s public schools. Since the theme was International Foods, and I was on an Indian roll, I offered trays of Vegetable Coconut Curry, Saffron Rice and Black Lentil Dal. It was perfect and yummy! Thursday was National Food Day, where thousands of events took place across the country, educating people about healthy, affordable, local, sustainably grown food. Slow Food Huntington was happy to partner with SUNY Farmingdale, to create our own Food Day Event,? bringing educational presentations and cooking demos to the students and community at Farmingdale.

This weekend was Mitzvah Day at my synagogue, and I had agreed to host the 6th grade class and parents at my home, to cook and prepare a vegan meal for hundreds of hungry people right in our own community. We partnered with a wonderful organization called LI Food Not Bombs,? a group dedicated to taking care of the community through food recovery and IMG_0418distribution. Every day they go into another, “in need” community, and distribute thousands of pounds of recovered fresh produce and groceries that would otherwise be going to the landfill. It is awesome. All of the kids and parents worked hard to prepare five chaffing pans of Vegetable Stir Fry with GF Sesame Noodles, and hundreds of PB and J Sandwiches! It was a great day, and I know it had a big impact on the kids.

My guest this week is Frederique Keller, a beekeeper and a NY licensed Acupuncturist. Her private practice specializes in 1276656_10152062590013243_1660391061_oAcupunture, incorporating classical homeopathy and bee venom therapy. She is the current President of the American Apitherapy Society Inc., a not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating about and promoting the use of the products of the hive for health and healing. As someone “new” to the beekeeping family, I am very excited to hear all that Frederique has to share. Please join me on Thursday, at 10 am, to share in the conversation.
