Take Action: Tell U.S. Pork Producers to Drop Dangerous Ractopamine, Step Up and Protect Bees, Naked Juice Get Serious About Honest Labeling

Tell Top Ten U.S. Pork Producers to Drop Risky Drug Ractopamine

Ractopamine is a controversial drug used widely as an animal feed additive in industrial factory farms that raises significant food safety and animal welfare concerns for U.S. and international consumers.? Unlike the U.S., more than 160 countries ?including Russia, China, Taiwan, and the 27 members of the European Union–ban or strictly limit the use of ractopamine, a controversial drug used widely in animal feed that promotes growth in pigs, cattle, and turkeys.? Ractopamine is linked with serious health and behavioral problems in animals, and while human health studies are limited, those that exist raise serious concerns. While the U.S. has so far refused to join the international community in banning this risky drug in animal feed, the U.S. already has a certified ractopamine-free program for pork exports to the E.U., and some corporate producers are already operating production plants that are 100% ractopamine-free to meet international demand. It is therefore not unreasonable to expect the same for U.S. market as well.? In fact, some U.S. food companies already avoid meat produced with the feed additive, including Chipotle restaurants, producer Niman Ranch, and Whole Foods Markets. But in order for food companies to offer meat free of ractopamine, pork producers need to provide it. Sign the petition to the Top Ten pork producers in the U.S. urging them to stop using ractopamine in pork production!

Tell Naked Juice to Get Serious About Honest Labeling

For decades, major food companies have been labeling products that contain genetically engineered and synthetic ingredients as ?All Natural.?? Thankfully,? as part of a recent class action lawsuit settlement, Naked Juice, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, has agreed to remove the label ?All Natural? from all of its juices and to pay $9 million to the class action group. An important part of this class action lawsuit is to appoint a non-profit to receive any unclaimed funds that have been designated to consumers, so it can continue to pursue improvements in accurate labeling throughout the industry.? Yet, Naked Juice doesn?t want this to happen and is trying to appoint two non-profits who have nothing to do with accurate labeling! Tell Naked Juice that you demand a real commitment to honest labeling!

EPA has a New Leader: Tell Her to Step Up and Protect Bees!

Honey bees are being wiped out on huge levels from toxic pesticides called neonicotinoids. This is a major issue because bees? are responsible for producing 1/3 of our food. It is the job of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to review such pesticides for safety and to take action if they are found to be harmful. Gina McCarthy has just become the new leader of the EPA. As head of the agency it will be up to her to make sure EPA protects bees and other pollinators from these toxic pesticides. Let?s make sure that the first thing on Administrator McCarthy?s to-do list is to stop stalling and get to work protecting our pollinators.
