Take Action: Join the Rally Against Fracking at Cuomo?s State of the State Address, Stop Shell’s 2014 Arctic Drilling Plans Before They Start, It’s Time for Health Canada to Help Save Our Bees

Join the Rally Against Fracking at Cuomo?s State of the State Address!

It is absolutely critical that we show Cuomo that New Yorkers do not want fracking! Where is a better place to express this other than his State of the State Address? It?s where the Governor lays out his plans for the year. It?s where he lays out his re-election messaging. It?s where we show Cuomo and all of our elected officials that New York must remain frack-free.? This is the critical crossroads ? on the fate of New York and the nation ? Facebook share STATE OF ADDRESS RALLY12_4_13where we remain. In one direction is fracking, leading to further catastrophic dependence on fossil fuels. That path is lined with drill rigs, contaminated rivers and water wells, smog and toxic air, dangerous pipelines, compressor stations, and other infrastructure, and poisoned farms. It leads to a future with worse climate change, super storms and public health disasters. In the other direction ? Governor Cuomo and the people of New York say no to fracking and instead embrace renewable energy. That path leads to good jobs, healthy families, and sustainable homes and communities. New York can step up and show the nation and the world a place where people can live, work and thrive without dirty and dangerous extreme energy. We can take a stand for public health and clean water. We can champion and support our jobs in agriculture and tourism and continue to develop more jobs in efficiency and renewable energy like wind and solar.? We need all of you to join us in Albany at the State of the State address on?Wednesday, January 8th, 2014?in order for Governor Cuomo to see that the will of the people of New York is to say no to fracking and yes to a healthy, renewable energy future. Stop Shell’s 2014 Arctic Drilling Plans Before They Start

Shell has just announced it plans to drill for oil in the Alaskan Arctic in 2014. Shell will stop at nothing to get at the oil it believes is under the Arctic.?As a senior Shell official reminded the world last week, drilling for oil in Alaska?s Chukchi Sea is ?the single largest exploration prospect in the Shell Group.? The stakes couldn?t be higher for Shell or the environment. Stopping them is simple: President Obama has the power to pull Shell?s drilling permits any time he wants. But it?s going to take overwhelming public support for the President to do the right thing and stand up to Big Oil. Send a message right now to President Obama asking him to pull Shell?s permits to drill for oil in the Alaskan Arctic.

It’s Time for Health Canada to Help Save Our Bees

Even while tens of millions of bees die, Health Canada isn?t doing anything. On December 1, the European Union imposed a two year ban on neonicotinoids, the pesticide manufactured by Bayer that scientists have tied to the massive global bee die-off. It?s a bold step and not a moment too soon. With up to a third of all honeybees vanishing each winter, beekeepers are saying that we are ?on the brink? of losing our crops? vital pollinators. The?Canadian government agency in charge, Health Canada, has been dragging its feet for years.?But we need a pollinator-friendly policy now, to ensure a safe, sustainable environment for future generations. Tell Health Canada to protect the bees, and enact sensible restrictions on bee-killing pesticides now. It?s not an exaggeration to say we owe our prosperity and even our survival to millions of bees. Bees are responsible for pollinating over 30% of world?s food supply, and they help generate over hundreds of billions to the global economy. And bees are dying worldwide. This summer, a shocking 37 million bees were reported dead across a single farm in Ontario. Bee die offs aren?t one off incidents — in China, the situation has gotten so bad that farmers are forced to hand-pollinate their trees. Join in today to protect Canada’s ecosystem. Demand that Health Canada take action on protecting our bees.
