Take Action! Get a Grant to Promote Health in Your School! Speak Out Against the Proposed Social Service Cuts!

I wanted to share some information with you, from an organization called, Action for Healthy Kids. They offer grants to schools and parents who want to work towards improving the health of their school community. By April 5, you can apply for a school breakfast grant, Game On grant, or Parents for Healthy Kids grant to make an impact on your school community in the 2019-2020 school year.

Since 2009, they have awarded $8.7 million to schools across the country to help them get the resources they need to make nutrition and physical activity priorities for students. Your school can be one of those schools. Do you want to plant a school garden so kids can learn math, science, teamwork, and good nutrition? Or maybe compile an active indoor recess kit for all those rainy days? Is school breakfast participation an issue at your school? Then don’t miss out on this opportunity—apply now.

Also, they are promoting Every Kid Healthy Week, which is April 22-26, and are encouraging teachers, parents and staff to work together to plan an event!  If you haven’t started planning an event yet, below is a helpful checklist to make it a bit easier.

  1. Choose your event(s) and begin nailing down logistics. Will you do a health fair? Family fitness night?
  2. Register your event. Get it on the map to show that you’re part of a nationwide movement.
    1. Not school staff? Use the event search tool to find one near you to attend, or urge your school to host one. You can also find some activities to celebrate health at home.
  3. Promote your event by creating flyers, adding the event to your school communications, announcing on social media, etc. Find helpful templates at EveryKidHealthyWeek.org.
  4. Follow up with volunteers, donors, and other event participants.
  5. Consult our full event to-do list for how to keep the momentum building until your event.
Don’t miss out on the fun: Celebrate our kids and promote healthy eating, and fun activities, so they are better able to learn! And remember, iEat Green, is available to do cooking demonstrations in your school during the Every Kid Healthy Week and all year long!
