Join the People’s Climate March, September 6th in NYC!

September 8th in DC and Everywhere else!

Next week, on September 6th, New York City will be marching to fight for action on climate change, jobs and justice in the People’s Climate March #RISENY !

The is an immediate call for the government to move away from fossil fuels and to transition to renewable energy sources. We need our government to stop supporting the infrastructure of fossil fuels and to hold corporate polluters accountable. Climate change is a huge issue, and it needs to become front and center for everyone!! If you want to read more about it, the New York Time Magazine just had a great, full length piece on the issue, and how we could have put things in place 30 years ago to stop it. No matter what your political affiliation is, Climate Change is real, and it will effect us all. It is important that we demand our government to take action to preserve our planet, for us, for our children, for our grandchildren, and for the generations still to come!

March will begin with a rally in Battery Park at 5:30pm on Thursday, September 6th

Oppose Pesticide Pre-Emption in the House Farm Bill!

The 2018 House Farm Bill is up on the floor soon, and there are changes that could be made that would rewind years of protective laws against pesticide use. NOFA-NY has been following the issue and you can read more here.

The Summary of the issue from NOFA-NY is this:

This provision is in Section 9101 of the House Farm Bill, under the Horticulture Title. It is a direct assault on communities’ right to restrict pesticides linked to cancer, water contamination, and the decline of pollinators to protect their residents’ health and unique local ecosystems. Over 150 communities across the country have local policies that restrict the use of toxic pesticides – this provision would remove their authority to do so.

You can help oppose this by writing to your member of congress today! You can find your congressman or woman by clicking here.

NOFA-NY suggests you pen a letter or email with this message:

“We ask that you please OPPOSE the inclusion of Section 9101 in the final farm bill. Please remove this language: Subtitle B, Section (b) Uniform Regulation of Pesticides,” (3) CONDITION ON MORE RESTRICTIVE REGULATION.-Section 24(a) of the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide, and Rodenticide Act (7 U.S.C. 136v(a)) is amended by striking ‘A State may’ and inserting ‘A State, but not a political subdivision of a State, may.'”

It is an easy way to ensure that we have protection against these potentially cancer-causing chemicals. Please write a letter or email today!
