Stop Scott Pruitt’s Attack On Science And Our Public Health

Image result for boot pruittEveryone depends on the science used by the Environmental Protection Agency. That is, we presume the policies which come from their science-based recommendations are for public interest; ensuring that we breathe healthier air, eat less-toxic food and drink safer water. Yet, the Trump administration has proposed, again, a rule that would upend the use of science at the EPA…  ultimately, deregulating air pollution standards, the use of pesticides in our food, and protections from lead and more. According to Earthjustice, the EPA under Administrator Pruitt is aiming to rewrite the rules, so the EPA can ignore peer-reviewed health studies that rely on confidential information, “such as study participants’ identifying characteristics and personal medical histories, and medical providers’ reports on how chemicals in our air, water or food harm these individuals.” Make your voice heard and share the news that we need to speak up, stand up, and act together to keep public interests at the forefront and protection standards intact!!!

Support Senator’s Backlash to Keep Net Metering Laws Intact for Community Solar

Image result for community solar net meteringLast year, New York proposed gutting net metering for solar power and replacing it with a complicated pricing formula that threatens the growth of solar power. This is bad news for the solar industry, the climate, and the health and safety of all New Yorker’s. At a time when we must do everything possible to move off fossil fuels, attacking solar power is a giant step in the wrong direction. Fortunately, there’s a bill working its way through the legislature right now that will save net metering and preserve the growth of solar. Working together, we can stop the attack on solar power, but it’s going to take all of us. Will you contact your legislators today?

PRN Guest, Gabriela Álvarez, of Liberation Cuisine Hopes to Continue Relief in Puerto Rico

My guest from last week, Gabriela Álvarez, the chef and founder of Liberation Cuisine, has started a fundraiser to continue her efforts of community (re)building in Puerto Rico. Specifically, the fundraiser is focused on Casa-Taller in Santurce, Puerto Rico. Still, in a state of catastrophe after Hurricane Maria, many people are without shelter, food, water, paid work and other basic necessities. Learn more about this fundraiser and/or contact Gabriela here.

Join Friends of the Earth to Demand GMO Food Have Appropriate Labels

The USDA is trying to allow the biotechnology industry to hide genetically engineered food behind a ridiculous label that includes a smiley face and a sun. And it wants to label these products “BE” — for “bioengineered” — instead of the widely understood “GMO.”

This proposal comes in response to demands from people like you to require labeling of GMO foods. But it’s so toothless and misleading that it would result in even more confusion about what we’re feeding our families.

We need your help to demand real labeling, not industry propaganda!

Tell the USDA: We need clear labels on GMO foods!

Help Organic Consumers Association Stop ‘Pasteurization Without Representation’

Image result for pasteurized milk dairyDoes your Member of Congress support your freedom to choose raw milk? Now, you can find out. The U.S. House of Representatives took its first roll call vote on the issue last week. TAKE ACTION: Click here to find out how your member of Congress voted on raw milk and help out with next steps.

Last week, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) spoke during the House debate on raw milk. Massie, who introduced an amendment to the the Farm Bill that would have overturned the 1987 ban on interstate sales of raw milk, said this:

“I want you to imagine this scenario: Heavily armed federal swat team dressed in black from head to toe with body armor on, guns blazing, military-style assault weapons, extra magazines loaded, come in intent on questioning all opposition. What crime could they possibly be going after? Is it a human trafficking ring? A drug bust? No. They are after an amish farmer for selling milk straight from the cow. I’d like to tell you this is an imaginary scenario, but it’s happened and it keeps happening.”

Unfortunately, most Members of Congress sided with the factory farm dairy industry against the hardworking family farmers who struggle to make nutrient-dense raw milk available to eager customers. Only 79 of the chamber’s 435 voting members supported Congressman Massie’s amendment.
