In the News: The Power of Plant Based Diets is Gaining the Recognition it Deserves!

The news this week has me really excited!

Not only are all New York City Schools going completely Plant Based on Fridays, but 6 NYC hospitals have just added a Plant Based Lifestyle Medicine Program to their offerings, following the success of the Bellevue Hospital’s program !! Obviously, people are seeing the benefits of what a plant based diet can do for your health, and they are spreading the word.

This will provide patients living with chronic disease the opportunity to make healthy lifestyle changes that could reverse their diseases!

The new hospitals that are implementing the program are Jacobi, Lincoln, Woodhull, Kings County, and Elmhurst, as well as Gotham Health, Vanderbilt.

Dr. Michelle McCacken, who will be overseeing the rollout at city hospitals has been involved in the Bellevue Program. “The outcomes we’ve seen in the Bellevue program have been tremendous,” she said. “We actually know we can prevent up to 80% of chronic disease and premature health by helping people eat healthier, be more physically active, and not smoke.”

Eric Adams, the new Mayor of New York City has been on a plant based diet for years, and has reversed his own health issues. He is a role model and a big supporter for promoting healthy lifestyle changes.

“Today, New York City is again leading the way with the most comprehensive expansion of lifestyle medicine programming in the nation,” Adams said. “This is personal to me. A plant-based lifestyle helped save my life, and I’m thrilled that New Yorker’s in every zip code will have access to this critical programming. Together, we will stop feeding the health care crisis and ensure all New Yorker’s can access the healthy lifestyle they deserve.”
