In the News: The Pandemic Shines a Light on the Problems of Corporate Consolidation in Our Food Supply! Our Government Continues to Protect Industry over People! Finally, For the Third Time, Governor Cuomo Rejects the Williams Pipeline!

The Consolidation of Our Food Supply is Wrecking Havoc on Our Environment, Our Health,  On Fair Labor and Wages, and On Animal Welfare.

Factory farms are too big to be resilient and yet they continue to take over the agricultural landscape of the United States. There are currently 1.6 billion animals suffering in our nation’s 25 thousand factory farms. Together, these animals produce an estimated 885 billion pounds of manure each year, polluting our air and water and releasing climate-warming emissions. Our Government Continues to Protect Industry over People!

When we can’t find a food product on the shelf, we need to substitute something else in it’s place or make another choice. When a food manufacturer can’t find an ingredient, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has given them permission during COVID-19 to substitute something else or leave it out, and not let the public know or change the label! This issue has been a constant fight in the organic world, because if their happens to be a shortage in organic tomatoes for instance, they are allowed to substitute non-organic tomatoes until the shortage subsides. This should not be allowed!! It is infuriating to watch the accommodations that are being made for industry and greed, and not for the health of family farmers, small business owners and the public.

We Won! The Williams Pipeline was Rejected Again!

Thank you to everyone who signed petitions, called the Governor’s office and wrote letters. The power of the people prevailed!!

The Cuomo administration on Friday rejected for the third time, the Williams Pipeline! I felt like we were stuck in the movie Groundhog Day. This pipeline kept coming back into the headlines, and we would need to mobilize the people to fight it. Well, hopefully this is the last time!
