Here is a Catch 22! If More Children Participated in the National School Lunch Program, There Would Be More Money for Better Ingredients, butfor parents who can afford to send an organic, healthy lunch to school with their children, it is hard to ask them not to.

In America, it will be a long time before the school lunch program provides the same quality lunch that mom can make at home (or Italy can make at school). However, if more students participated in the lunch program, there would be more money for the school to purchase better quality ingredients and improve the infrastructure to support scratch cooking. (By the way, in case you can’t tell, those are chicken nuggets in the USA lunch.) Unfortunately, for many students living in poverty, the food they receive at school may be the only food they get, so improving the quality of the ingredients, and making the meals taste delicious, is essential!

Did you know that some Decaffeinated Coffee Brands are still using the toxic chemical, Methylene chloride, in their processing? Methylene chloride, a chemical linked to cancer, cognitive impairment, and other health issues. Last year, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) banned the controversial chemical from paint thinners, yet our FDA (Food and Drug Administration) still allows its use in processing decaf coffee! Go figure?

According to a recent investigation by the Clean Label Project™, a national nonprofit focused on health and transparency in labeling, a surprising number of popular decaffeinated coffee brands contained methylene chloride, while none of the certified organic brands tested contained detectable levels of methylene chloride.
