In the News: Gun Violence is Taking this Country Down! We Need to Fight Back! The White House will Host First Food Insecurity Conference in 50 Years!

Our hearts are once again heavy with the news of more senseless deaths from gun violence: On Tuesday, an 80 year old grandmother, attending her grandchild’s high school graduation was fatally shot in the parking lot, outside of New Orleans. These type of stories are a daily occurrence in this country because guns are so easy to come by. Something has got to change!
Two weeks ago, Black people were targeted at a Tops grocery store in Buffalo, and last Tuesday in Uvalde, Texas, children and teachers were the victims. These are just the shootings that made the news. Gun violence is a daily occurrence. Only 5 months into 2022, and there have already been 231 mass shootings this year.

After the Buffalo massacre, [Civil Eats] reached out to a group of interdisciplinary scholars with a collective commitment to food justice in East Buffalo to share their thoughts, and next steps for Buffalo. Check it out!

The White House will host it’s first food insecurity conference in 50 years!

The conference comes as skyrocketing grocery prices and supply chain problems further contribute to food insecurity, exacerbating already-existing issues and making it harder for Americans to shop for weekly food staples.
