In the News: Eco-Grief and Climate Anxiety is Real! Fracking is Dangerous to Public Health, to Our Water, and to Our Climate!

Eco-Grief and Climate Anxiety is Real! What Can We Do About It?

For those of us paying attention to the reports on Climate Change, staying optimistic and hopeful can be a challenge. Many people are falling into a deep state of depression, filled with fear, and dread for the future. The decision to have children, knowing they will be inheriting a planet filled with a myriad of problems, is a very hard decision to make. In 2020, an American Psychiatric Association poll found that more than half of all Americans feel like climate change has effected their mental health. There are now researchers and therapists studying and specializing in Climate Anxiety and Eco Grief. One of them, Dr. Wray, who holds a Ph.D. in science communication, shifted her work to focus on it entirely. She has a weekly newsletter, Gen Dread, where she shares her findings and coping techniques with more than 2,000 subscribers.

The political polarization in this country, on top of the health and environmental challenges, is just too much for many to handle. Eco-distress, caused by food insecurity, water and air pollution, melting ice caps, wild fires, hurricanes, flooding, heatwaves, animal and plant extinction, and untamed pandemics, can cause anguish over what the future will hold. Breathe Deep and seek help if you need it.

Either you Believe in Science, or You Believe in Fracking. You Can’t Have it Both Ways!

President Biden and Vice President Harris have made it clear that they care about Climate Change and they trust in Science. However, there are many contradictions to their words and the policy’s they are promoting. According to the science, Fracking is poisoning our water, it’s making people sick & it’s fueling the climate crisis.

Food and Water Watch has put together this powerful video, using the President’s own words, in conjunction with the research. Please share this video with your social media circles. The more people who see it, the more influence we can have on the administration.

Biden doesn’t have the power to ban fracking everywhere, but he could;

  1. Permanently ban fracking and other fossil fuel extraction on federal lands and waters.
  2. Declare a climate emergency, and use his executive authority to reject permits for new infrastructure that supports the fracking industry. This includes pipelines, refineries, fracked gas export terminals, and power plants.
  3. Change his position on fracking, and urge members of Congress to pass legislation to phase out fracking and other fossil fuel extraction as part of a just transition.
