In The News: Ben and Jerry’s Continues to Greenwash Their Ice Cream with a Claim of “Caring Dairy”!

What is Greenwashing you ask? Greenwashing is the process of conveying a false impression or providing misleading information about how a company’s products are more environmentally sound. Greenwashing is considered an unsubstantiated claim to deceive consumers into believing that a company’s products are environmentally friendly. We all need to be careful about Greenwashing because company’s know that being environmentally friendly, and sourcing quality ingredients for their products is something consumers want, and so they spin a story that is not accurate. As more and more small companies are bought out by huge corporations, this problem is becoming an everyday affair.

Ben and Jerry’s, which was started in 1978 by two guys that cared about people and the environment, was sold to the huge conglomerate, Unilever, back in 2000, and things have changed. They no longer can claim that their ice cream comes from “happy cows” and their “Caring Dairy” program is not very caring at all. Check out this article in Regeneration Vermont!
