In the News: A Plant Based Diet is Good For the Planet! Add the Endangered Species Act to Trump’s Dismantling! New Immigration Rule Rejects the Poor!

According to the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Plant-Based Foods Are the Key to Fighting Climate Change!

We consume too much meat as a nation, and factory farms have got to go! Global meat consumption must fall to curb global warming, reduce growing strains on land and water and improve food security, health and biodiversity, a United Nations report on the effects of climate change concluded.

Although the report stopped short of explicitly advocating going meat free, it called for big changes to farming and eating habits to limit the impact of population growth and changing consumption patterns on stretched land and water resources.

Plant-based foods and sustainable animal-sourced food could free up several million square kilometers of land by 2050 and cut 0.7-8.0 gigatonnes a year of carbon dioxide equivalent from the atmosphere.

Does Trump Lie Awake at Night Thinking, “What Can I F_ck Up Next?”

The Trump administration on Monday announced that it would change the way the Endangered Species Act is interpreted, making it harder to protect wildlife from the multiple threats posed by climate change and weakening the nation’s law.

The new rules would make it easier to remove a species from the endangered list and weaken protections for threatened species, the classification one step below endangered. It would also allow regulators to determine the financial ramifications of protecting a certain species, and decide whether the financial loss is worth protecting the species.

The new rule would not take climate change into the decision making process, since the threat would be decades away and not immediate.

Over all, the revised rules pave the path for renewed mining, oil and gas drilling, and development in areas where protected species live.

New Immigration Rule Rejects the Poor!

President Trump continues to create a hostile situation when it comes to immigration. On Monday, he issued a new rule targeting legal immigrants who are struggling financially. The new rule says that if you are not able to completely support yourself, we don’t want you here. No immigrant can apply for, or use any government benefit programs, such as food stamps or subsidized housing, and expect to qualify for a green card. Starting in October, the government’s decision will be based on an aggressive wealth test to determine whether those immigrants have the means to support themselves.
