iEat Green Welcomes in the New Year! Sanjay Rawal, Joins Bhavani to Talk About His New Film, “Gather!”

Hi Everyone,

I am so glad to say good bye to 2020, and welcome in 2021!! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday, and managed to stay healthy and find some peace in the less hectic than usual holiday season. I know personally, once I let go of my expectations, everything was perfect, and I was able to settle down into the new normal.

I’m very excited to start the New Year off with Sanjay Rawal, director of the new documentary film, Gather, as my first guest of the year! Sanjay spent 15 years working on human rights campaigns globally, before making his first feature film, Food Chains, an exposé to the abuse and exploitation of the Immokalee Tomato Farm Worker.  Food Chains premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and had its US premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival in 2014.

Due to the pandemic, Gather, was released straight-to-digital in September 2020. It has received a New York Times Critic’s Pick selection. Reviewer Lovia Gyarkye wrote, “The film wonderfully weaves personal stories with archival footage that contextualizes the continued violence against Native Americans. Rawal covers a substantial amount of ground and deftly balances the dense material without losing sight of the mission driving the bigger story: Healing from generational trauma sometimes starts with just one person.”

The film shares some beautiful stories while raising awareness about the continued struggle of Native Americans. Check out the trailer below, and join us on Thursday for a great conversation!
