iEat Green Talks with Food Recovery Network Co-Founder, Ben Simon

Hi All,

Food Waste has been in the media a lot lately, with good reason! Not only is one third of all the food grown globally wasted, but 1 in 5 children in the United States are food insecure, and millions go to sleep hungry. Food waste is bad for our environment and bad for our economy, and it is finally getting the attention it deserves. A few years ago, while Ben Simon was a student at the University of Maryland, he became very aware of all the food being wasted on his college

campus. He and a few friends decided they were going to do something about it, and started the Food Recovery Network, an organization that is now in 127 universities across the country, and has recovered and donated over 600,000 pounds of food since 2011. It’s a wonderful example of “Being the Change you Want to See in the World.” If you missed the interview, please listen below!
