iEat Green Shares Interview with Toby Adams, Director of the Edible Academy at the NYBG!

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I had a great conversation with Toby Adams, the Director of the Edible Academy at the New York Botanical Gardens (NYBG).

The Edible Academy is a three acre oasis within the NYBG, that teaches the public about growing and preparing vegetables, fruit, and herbs while encouraging a lifelong interest in gardening, nutrition awareness, and sustainability.  They do this in many ways, from hands on “drop in” programs for kids of all ages, to a School for Professional Horticulture. In between, they have camps for kids, school groups coming through, teacher training programs to start school gardens, complete with curriculum lessons, cooking classes in their 5,300 sq. ft demonstration kitchen, and an internship program to teach the next generation.

Listening to Toby talk about all of the different programs that go on simultaneously, had my head spinning. What an amazing resource for the community and for all the students who benefit from the Edible Academy. To learn more about the Edible Academy, check out their website, and plan a visit. They are open year round! And if you are interested in volunteering or working at the garden, they are accepting applications now!
