iEat Green Shares Interview with Doug Rauch, Founder and President of Daily Table and Former President of Trader Joe’s!

Yesterday I had a wonderful conversation with Doug Rauch, the former president of Trader Joe’s and the current founder and president of Daily Table, a nonprofit, innovative, retail concept designed to bring truly affordable nutrition to the food insecure. Daily Table currently has three retail stores in Boston, located in neighborhoods where nutritious food is hard to find. Doug’s work with Trader Joe’s has informed his ability to seek out excess, wholesome food that would otherwise be wasted at growers, manufacturers, distributors and retailers, and then sell it at prices people can afford.

Realizing that many people work 2 and 3 jobs just to keep their families fed, and have very little time to cook, Daily Table opened a large commissary where they offer fresh, healthy, nutrient dense meals for only $1.99! Less than a Big Mac, and a lot more satisfying.

Doug is also a founding board member and was CEO for 6 years of Conscious Capitalism Inc., an organization dedicated to the practice of business as a force for good. He believes in Capitalism, when all the stake holders are considered, including the environment, the workers, the community and the shareholders. He does not believe in Crapilism, where the only concern is that of the shareholders, and all the other stakeholders suffer. Unfortunately, we see a lot more of the crapilism than the good capitalism.

Doug’s life’s work is a perfect example how one person can make such a difference in the lives of so many. If you missed our interview, you can listen to it here;
