I just finished my interview with Carey Gillam about her work investigating the corporation, Monsanto, and her book, The Monsanto Papers, about the landmark lawsuit against Monsanto. In the lawsuit of Lee Johnson vs. Monsanto, it was the first time that the corporation was actually held accountable for their product causing cancer, and the web of deception that they weaved to keep that knowledge hidden.  Carey Gillam, is an investigative journalist and shared with us the hoops that Monsanto has gone through to discredit scientists, to infiltrate the government, to ghost write articles touting glyphosates safety, and to pay off scientists and government officials to stand behind their product. It is despicable behavior, but it is the way of business in our power hungry, greed hungry, capitalist society. Carey’s other book, “Whitewash- The Story of a Weed Killer, Cancer and the Corruption of Science”  gives a great back story to the Monsanto Papers. Both books are a worthwhile read and I highly suggest them.
