iEat Green Prays for More Love in the World! Dr. Monica Aggarwal and Dr. Jyothi Rao Join Bhavani on PRN to Talk About Their Book, “Body on Fire!”

Hi Everyone,

We are witnessing  an unprecedented time of divide in this country, and it is so disturbing and upsetting. Things that seem so obvious to me, like Climate Change, mass distinction of animals and plants, discrimination towards people of color, monopoly in our food system, inequality in access to food, housing, jobs, and health care, are all up for debate. Most of all, we are witnessing a divide in our government, which came to a head this past week at the Capital. It saddens me beyond compare, and challenges me in my ability to listen to the other side, when I think they are so wrong and out of touch with reality. I try to be a beacon of love, support, understanding, and compassion to my community, but this is an issue that has me stumped. I just can’t figure out how half of this country can believe and follow the words of a narcissistic, ego maniac, sex offending bigot, who is an anarchist and incites violence? How does this happen?

In light of everything going on, it almost seems trivial to ask you to sign petitions to protect our water, air, food, people and animals, but to the contrary, we need to keep focused. We need to set our goals high, and inform the new administration that we care, and expect them to protect our human rights and our planet. I am grateful to all of you who join me on this path.

My guests this week are Dr. Monica Aggarwal and Dr, Jyothi Rao, together, they wrote a new book, Body on Fire; How Inflammation Triggers Chronic Illness and the Tools We Have to Fight It.

Monica Aggarwal, MD, is an associate professor of medicine in the University of Florida Division of Cardiovascular Medicine. Serving as the Director of Integrative Cardiology and Prevention at the University of Florida, Dr. Aggarwal focuses on promoting food as the foundation of healing and for its medicinal value. She is also the Director of Medical Education for Cardiology, where she directs education for medical residents and cardiology fellows, with a focus on prevention, nutrition and lifestyle. In the hospital, she has multiple initiatives including developing a 100% plant based menu for cardiac and vascular patients.
Dr. Aggarwal gives talks around the community and the country. She was named a “Next Generation Innovator” by Cardiology Today. She is often featured in Veg News, Naked Magazine and has been featured in forksoverknives.com. She conducts research on nutrition education in medical institutions and on how a plant based diet impacts cardiovascular disease. Board certified in cardiology, echocardiography and nuclear cardiology, she is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), where she is a member of the nutrition council working on nutrition policies for the nation. Monica specializes in preventative management of heart disease with lifestyle techniques in conjunction with medications. In addition to Body on Fire, she is the author of the book “Finding Balance: Empower Yourself with Tools to Combat Stress and Illness,” which outlines 10 prescriptions to help guide people to better health.

Dr. Jyothi Rao has been practicing medicine for over 20 years. She received her Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey and completed her internship and residency at the prestigious New England Medical Center (Tufts) in Boston.
