iEat Green Joins 350Brooklyn’s Green New Meal: The Food-Climate Connection at Brooklyn Central Library on December 11th! Reflections on Our Thanksgiving Feast! Mark Winne, Author of the New Book, “Food Town USA”, Joins Bhavani on PRN!

Hi Everyone,

Next Wednesday, December 11th, I will be moderating a panel at the Brooklyn Public Library on climate change and it’s connection to the foods you eat. The “Green New Meal: The Food-Climate Connection” will explore the challenges in making better choices while offering solutions. Climate activist, Nancy Romer and Farm School NYC director, Onika Abraham, will be on the panel sharing their expertise and answering questions. The forum, at the Central Library at 10 Grand Army Plaza starts at 7 pm and is a part of Climate Wednesdays: Solutions for a Cooler Brooklyn, a series presented by 350Brooklyn and the Brooklyn Public Library. 350Brooklyn works to counter climate change and to achieve climate justice through local action. They promote sustainable energy, oppose the fossil fuel industry, and educate and activate our community. 350Brooklyn is a local affiliate of 350.org, a global grassroots organization that is raising awareness about climate change.

I hope you can join us!

The Thanksgiving that Almost Wasn’t, Happened, and It was Fantastic!

Last Tuesday, 2 days before Thanksgiving, iEat Green and a Community of Volunteers embarked on The Pink Houses in Brooklyn, and set up a Thanksgiving Feast for Those in Need, that will be remembered for many days to come! We had more than enough food for the 500 or so people that were there, and the remaining food was distributed to various shelters throughout the area by our partners, The River Fund NY.

For the past 20 years, we have been serving the folks in Jamaica, Queens at Rufus King Park, but this year, we were not able to get the permit, and we almost had to cancel the whole event. Luckily, The River Fund also serves the Pink House’s with their Mobile Food Pantry, so we were able to make a last minute switch. The event actually starts 4 days before we serve, with shopping, prepping and cooking, all taking place in my iEat Green Homestead. It is a collaboration of friends, family, and community volunteers, who are all an integral part of the whole experience.

We will still be collecting coats and other winter items, as well as toys and jewelry to give away to the needy for the holidays, but our Christmas Dinner will not be happening until the permit issues are resolved.

Check out the short documentary video from last year!
