An Interview with Priscilla Timberlake & Lewis Freedman, Authors of The Great Life Cookbook

Hi Everybody,

This has been a very exciting week for me! After spending last Wednesday in Albany, lobbying with the American Farmland Trust for the No Farms, No Food agenda, I got to visit with a dear friend in the Hudson Valley. The next night, I joined The Sustainability Institute at Molloy College for their screening of the Island President, which was a great film about President Mohamed Nasheed’s term as president of the 1200 islands that make up the country, Maldives. He saw the threat of climate change as the single most important issue of the day, because it was about his country’s survival! Unfortunately, he had to resign under threats of violence from a coup in 2012, but what he did for that country during his tenure, especially during the Copenhagen Climate Summit in 2009, still is being felt today. I highly recommend seeing this film.

Then on Friday, Slow Food Huntington came of age! We elected our first Board of Directors, to take this chapter to the next level! Please join us for an? “East Meets East” ?welcoming dinner on April 21st, at the West East Bistro in Hicksville.
Today, March 20th, from noon-1:30 pm, I am hosting, along with Slow Food Huntington and The Small Farm Initiative, a Straw Bale Workshop, taught by Lorna Donaldson, a visiting farmer from Tennessee. Straw Bale Gardening is a simple, inexpensive way to get started on a garden, and can be done anywhere that has light.

Tonight, March 20th, Slow Food Huntington is hosting our Food On Film Series at the Huntington Cinema Arts Centre with the screening of “Step Up to the Plate”, a beautiful documentary about French chef, Michel Bras, and the passing down of his four star restaurant to his son. For more information about all of these events, and to purchase? tickets, see my event page.
