An Interview with Biodynamic Farmer, KK Haspel

Namaste Everyone!

I am back from India! I had an incredible trip, filled with peace, love and grace. I was warned before I left, that there was no way to actually prepare for the experience, and I think that was great advice. I went with no expectations, and allowed India to revel itself to me. It took time to feel the rhythm, but once I did, I just laid back and floated. It was beautiful!?Of course, the minute I was back in New York, my old life came pouring in, and I was back to my usual ways, except for one difference, I am remembering the grace that surrounds me. Balance, balance, balance is the key, but it is so hard when there are so many choices of things you are passionate about. Saturday was the March Against Monsanto, and in trying to do less, I decided not to go into NYC, and to stay local, and participate in the Huntington, March?Against Monsanto. It was lacking the energy of the city event, but it was sweet and personal, and we really got to talk to people about the issues.

Then on Sunday, Slow Food Huntington, along with the Cinema Arts Centre, screened Deborah Koon Garcia’s new documentary, Symphony of the Soil. What a great film. It goes into the complexity of soil, and explains how organic farming can revitalize the soil that conventional farming has screwed up! Following the film, Deborah was there to answer any questions, and I found myself leaving the auditorium feeling hopeful for our future.

This week my guest on the Progressive Radio Network is KK Haspel, who along with her husband Ira, own?The Farm, a?family-owned and operated biodynamic, organic farm in Southhold, NY. KK is an expert in kkandirabiodynamic farming, a method that is void of chemicals and harsh fertilizers, and instead relies heavily on compost and manuring. It is very much an environmentally spiritual approach to food productio, and having her on this week, after my spiritual journey to India, seems perfectly appropriate! If you ever get a chance to visit a biodynamic farm, including KK’s, it is obvious that these practices generate produce and soil that is not only healthy, but vibrant and sustainable. Tune in Thursday at 10am EST to prn.fm to learn more about KK, The Farm, and biodynamic farming methods.
