There was a great article this weekend in the N.Y. Times, about the upcoming city law that will require new buildings to be topped with green spaces or solar panels! I have had the pleasure of touring a few green roofs over the last few years, and it is amazing to
experience ‘being in a meadow’ hundreds of feet in the air, in the middle of a city! This new law, which is set to take effect next month, can help reduce our carbon footprint, reduce storm-water runoff, and mitigate rising temperatures.
In addition, the green roofs can help to bring back our pollinators, like monarch butterflies and honey bees, and we can grow local, organic food to feed the neighborhood.
The next step is to create a law that would require all windows and glass on buildings to have photovoltaic cells, so they can produce the energy needed to run the building!
