The GMO Labeling Rally in Albany; iEat Green Interviews Chef Daniel Boulud, World Renown Chef and Restaurateur

Hi Everybody,

I spent today up in Albany, participating in a rally to support the passing of the bills for mandatory labeling of GMO products in NY State. In the Assembly, it is called Bill #A.617 and in the Senate it is IMG_0317Bill #S.485, but they are basically the same bill. The Bill calls for transparency in our food, and would require food companies to label all foods that contain Genetically Modified Organisms (GMO). There is overwhelming support from the public to label GMO’s, and the fact that we are getting resistance from our public officials is a testament to the power of lobbying by big corporations and the money they donate towards political campaigns. This was our opportunity to do our own lobbying! Following the rally, we broke out into different congressional groups, and we visited our local Representatives and Senators. My group met with Assemblyman Ed Ra, and even though he has not yet come out publicly supporting the Bill, he gave us his word that he will! We also stopped by Senator Martins office and thanked him for co-sponsoring the Bill in the Senate. It felt like a productive day, and it felt good to be part of a movement that is working the system, and promoting the “Right to Know” what is in our food!

This Thursday, I am honored to be interviewing the French Chef Daniel Boulud, chef-owner of ten Daniel Bouludaward-winning restaurants and the Feast & Fêtes catering company. Chef Daniel has also authored 6 cookbooks and stars in a TV Series, “After Hours with Daniel” His career began in France, but it was in New York, where he mastered the culinary scene. Having grown up on a farm, outside of Lyon, he was always inspired by the rhythm of the seasons, well before it became trendy, and menus derived  by fine ingredients. Please join me on Thursday, to hear the latest of what Chef Daniel is working on now!
