iEat Green Joined the LI Food Coalition’s Trip to the Rodale Institute; Our First Cooking Class of the Summer is Coming Up! Irene Rizzo, Personal Trainer, Health Coach and Author, Joins iEat Green on the Progressive Radio Network

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday, I treated myself to a day at the farm. Not just any farm, but the Rodale Institute, a 333 acre independent, IMG_0611IMG_0614organic, research farm, that is committed to building healthy soil through organic practices. We traveled by luxury bus, and in true Slow Food/iEat Green style, we started the day with a Farm to Table lunch! Then we jumped onto the tractor driven wagon and began our tour! First stop was the heritage pig house during nap time, so they were all sleeping. We moved on to the bees, where we were greeted by Michael, the beekeeper at Rodale. He talked to us about colony collapse, raising queen bees and how to split the hive. It was fascinating! We toured some of the research fields where they are doing side by side trial IMG_0624tests, in the hopes to prove that the nutrient quality of organic produce is superior to conventional. We needed to rush through the tomato wind tunnel and get indoors, before the skies opened up and watered everything! While indoors, we had the opportunity to talk with some of the Rodale Institute farmers and research scientists and ask questions. It was a great day!

Next Tuesday, July 26th, will be the first of my 3 week cooking class series. All of the classes are Vegan and Gluten Free. The first one, scheduled for July 26th, will be a Japanese inspired menu. The next one is a GardenMediterranean Menu on August 2nd, and the last one is a Thai Menu on August 16th. Come for one or all three!

This week, my guest on PRN will be Irene Rizzo, author of the new book, Mountain of Youth, 12790988_10208915209576142_4173557759698123624_n
