iEat Green is Cooking for The LI Food and Film Feast; Attends Screening of Genetic Roulette & Interviews Chef Pierre Thiam

Hi Everybody,

I’m getting really excited about this Sundays LI Food and Film Feast, co-sponsored by Slow Food North Shore and The Cinema Arts Centre! It has become an annual celebration of our local, sustainable, food movement;? short documentary films paired with the featured food and guest speaker. An enchanted evening, not to be missed! Please purchase your tickets online, because we sold out last year, and had so many disappointed folks at the door.

We’re also busy planning the upcoming Long Island Food Conference, for April 25th at Hofstra University. Stephen Ritz, from the Green Bronx Machine, will be our keynote imagesspeaker, and we have dozens of panels and workshops scheduled throughout the day. I’ll be moderating a panel on “How Chef’s Influence the Marketplace” and giving a? workshop on “Getting Dinner on the Table”. Please save the date, spread the word, and get your tickets early!

Last night, I attended Food and Water Watch’s screening of Genetic Roulette: The Gamble of Our Lives, at the UU Congregation at Shelter Rock. This was not the first time I saw the film, yet my blood was still boiling. I get so disgusted every time I think of the revolving door that takes place in Washington, between the EPA, the FDA, the USDA and the Bio-tech companies like Monsanto, DuPont and Dow Chemical. The revolving door scenario also exists with the Big Pharma Companies, the Oil and Gas Companies, the Meat and Poultry Companies, the Grocery Manufacturing Companies, and even the Frozen Food Companies. We need to acknowledge that we can’t wait for our government to fix things, because they have too much money at stake. We MTFEbXc1TUNCTFUx_o_genetic-roulette-movie-trailerneed to make them feel it in their pockets, and the only way to do that is to grow this good food movement and to stop purchasing the GMO products, the processed foods, the anti-biotic and hormone infused meats, and the junk foods. We need to recognize the connection between the bad food, the dirty environment, food justice, global warming, the economy, and the health of our nation and its people, and we need to divest from any companies that add to the problem. If you haven’t seen this film yet, you can watch it online for free. It is a MUST See!
