iEat Green Interviews Nancy Romer, Life Long Activist, and Discusses The Peoples Climate March on 4/29 and the Protest Rally TODAY Against Land Grabbing!

Hi Everybody,

This morning I had the pleasure of interviewing my friend and colleague, Nancy Romer, about the Peoples Climate Movement and the April 29th March for Climate, Jobs and Justice (also known as the People’s Climate March). The beauty of this movement is that it can act as an umbrella for all of the grassroots organizations working on environmental issues, health issues, food justice and food sovereignty issues, and of course climate issues. As a member of the People’s Climate March Steering Committee, Nancy has been instrumental as one of the organizers of the Food and Farm Justice Hub contingent, which is bringing together over 50 organizations who’s focus is on food justice, sustainable agriculture, renewable energy and farming as a way to save the world! The March is taking place in Washington DC, with sister marches all across the country.

We also discussed the problem of land grabbing, and Nancy shed light on the investment firm that manages her retirement plan, TIAA, which also manages the retirement savings of millions of university administrators, public school teachers and others. TIAA prides itself in upholding socially responsible values, yet investigative reporting has found that they are engaged in land grabbing and purchasing farmland that has been taken away from poor farmers. There is a rally today, right after this interview at the headquarters of TIAA, to demand transparency in their land purchases overseas. If you are able to join Nancy at the rally, it will begin at 11:30am at St. Agnus Church, 143 E. 43rd. St, and then proceed to the TIAA headquarters at 730 3rd Ave, between 45th and 46th Street at noon. It would be awesome to show our support and demand transparency! If you missed our interview, you can listen to it here!
