iEat Green Celebrates the Rejection of the Fast Track for the TPP, and Interviews Ellen Gustafson, Co-Founder of Food Tank and Author of “We the Eaters”

Hi Everybody,

I hope you are enjoying the beautiful Spring, which has finally arrived. We’ve been busy planting our seeds in the garden for this summer’s Farm to Table Cooking Classes, and planting more wild flowers to keep our bees happy. Our bees have made it through the harsh winter, and they are active and busy pollinating our fruit trees and making more honey.

TPP_Fast_Track_Meme_short-01_copyEvery so often, I am hit by the amazement of Life, and the myriad of experiences that are all happening on the planet, at any given moment. I watch the ups and downs of our world go by, while staying engaged and hopeful for our future. I woke up this morning and heard about another earthquake in Nepal, which is beyond heart wrenching and I read that the United States has the worst maternal health care of any western nation, which is inexcusable. Now I just came in from the garden, and heard that the U.S Senate voted to not allow the Fast Tracking of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), which I am so relived about. The Fast Track would have given President Obama the authority to act on behalf of the American People, and pass the TPP, without the opportunity for discussion, deliberation, and transparency. The TPP negotiations have been taking place behind closed doors, with corporate interests on the table, and the American people have been left in the dark. To say I didn’t trust what was going on, would be an understatement! I am glad we now have the opportunity to learn more about the TPP, and to weigh in on what it will do for our country and the American people, not just the 1%!
