We must Urge Congress to Stop Deregulation of Industrial Factory Floating Fish Farms!

Republicans in Congress have just announced a bill which would allow for the expansion of huge, floating factory fish farms, to be built in our oceans. Factory farms taking over our oceans can cause serious harm to existing wild fish populations and entire ecosystems. Also, the waste from these operations will cause serious pollution in our oceans.

Friends of the Earth reports:

These facilities pollute the water with untreated fish waste, excess feed, agricultural drugs and pesticides, and heavy metals and chemicals. They spread disease and pests, threaten wildlife, and are putting truly sustainable seafood producers out of business.

Our  government should be making policies and laws that help sustainable fishing practices, not ones that will cause more harm to our environment.

Urge Congress to Oppose this New Bill!

It is National Seafood Month, so if you would like to learn more about sustainable seafood, you can check out Food Tank’s list of 16 Sustainable Fisheries and Seafood Organizations that are doing great work on this issue!

Stop Coal Ash Spills Polluting Waterways in the Carolina’s, Post-Hurricane Florence!

Following Hurricane Florence that hit the Carolina’s last week, there has been some severe flooding, causing rivers to breach. This has caused coal ash basins to be flooded, polluting the land and water supplies around energy plant facilities in both North and South Carolina. The problem has been made worse, due to President Trump rolling back regulations on how to store this toxic waste. Environmental groups are closely watching the situation and monitoring the pollution of water ways. We need to put pressure on our elected officials, so that President Trump and the EPA do not get away with rolling back regulations that put us all in danger.
