We need to support our local organic farmers! CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a wonderful way to get your organic vegetables all season long from a local farm. The way it works is you buy a share at the beginning of the growing season, and then every week you will receive a box of that week’s harvest. Every CSA is a little different. Some farms have drop off points and some farms require you to come and pick up your share. Some CSA’s, in addition to vegetable shares, offer options for fruit shares, flower shares, eggs, and local cheese. You need to shop around to find the best CSA that meets your needs.
CSA’s don’t work for everyone, for a variety of reasons, and that’s okay. The next best thing is to shop at your local farm or farmers market. Whether you join a CSA or shop at your local farm or farmers market, the experience of knowing where your food comes from, and meeting the community that surrounds that farm, will enrich your life beyond your expectations. Local Harvest is a great resource for finding a farm or farmers market near you. Check them out!!
Factory Farms, also known as CAFO’s (Confined Animal Feeding Operations) pollute our environment and drinking water. They add to the climate crisis, treat animals and farm workers inhumanely, and treat contract farmers unfairly. We need to put an end to it!
