Take Action: Getting Involved with Local Politics; Fundraiser for Seth Koslow for Nassau County Executive; Stop our Government from Passing the Big Beautiful Bill Act; Save Public Radio!

Fundraiser for Seth Koslow for Nassau County Executive, Tuesday, July 1st, from 6-8 PM

Other than always voting, signing petitions, and showing up for protests, rallies and marches, I’ve never gotten involved with politics. However, sitting on the sidelines while our democracy, history, and future are being erased, I have felt compelled to do more!

While trying to understand how we got to the place we are in now, I have learned that the Republican Party started years ago, slowly winning elections at the local level, putting conservative judges in place, and setting the stage for the current administration. That is why my husband and I decided to support and host a fundraiser in our home for Seth Koslow, who is running for Nassau County Executive. We obviously are not going to change the top national administration anytime soon, but we can have a real influence at the local level.

Please join us and help us support Seth Koslow in his run against Bruce Blakeman for our Nassau County Executive. It was Bruce Blakeman who set up the vigilante volunteer militia to patrol, police and enforce his politics and anything he considers needing stamping down. It is a complete overstep of power! We need to come together as a community to financially support this new agenda and overthrow Bruce Blakeman!! Otherwise we will inherit this corrupt government. Non action, is an action.

Please join us on July 1st, from 6 to 8 PM for cocktails & light bites, to support Seth Koslow for Nassau County Executive.
Sam Sochet, who is running for the Town of Oyster Bay Supervisor and Karen Bhatia who is running for Nassau County Legislator in the 18th District will also be present.

Stop our Government from Passing the Big Beautiful Bill Act

File:Granite Park Trail at Crystal Point, Glacier National Park, Montana (39795229124).jpg
The House of Representative’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” has been passed by the House and the Senate just revealed their version that includes a mandated sale of between 2 million and 3 million acres of public land to any “interested party”. I wish I could say that I was shocked by this, but it just seems part of the new normal. This public land includes national parks across 11 states and is critical to the protection of wildlife habitat, clean water sources and public access points to nature. It must be saved from being sold off.

As you know, they are also planning on cutting funding to the SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and Medicaid, both programs that help those less fortunate, while providing tax cuts to benefit the rich. We need to let our Senators know that we do not approve of these cuts!!

They are beginning to vote now, so time is of the essence!! Please contact your senators.

Below is a sample message created by the North Shore Land Alliance that you can edit to make your own:

Dear Senator ________,

As your constituent and as a supporter of our national parks and public lands, I urge you to oppose the language in the reconciliation bill released by the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources which requires the sell-off of millions of acres of public lands across the West without any community input or guardrails on what could be developed. Many at-risk lands border national parks and are critical to the ongoing protection of wildlife habitat, clean water sources and public access points to nature.

We need our parks and public lands and hope we can count on you to protect this treasured national resource.

We also need to maintain our public assistance programs, specifically SNAP and Medicaid, to help those ion need.

Your name,

File:National Public Radio headquarters.jpgAs I have mentioned in previous blogs, I listen to NPR (National Public Radio) as I wake up every morning. I am devastated to see that the House of Representatives voted to approve federal funding cuts to public radio today which could put my morning news in jeopardy. This federal funding cut would lead to station budget decreases, loss of jobs, as well as a loss of public safely and emergency alerting in our world that is becoming more inundated with severe weather events. Fortunately, we still have time to prevent this from happening by contacting our Senators who will be next to vote on this, but we need to take action NOW!

The American Coalition for Public Radio has created a sample message that you can copy and make your own:

Dear Senator __________

If public radio loses federal support, stations across the country will go silent. That means no emergency alerts, no local reporting, and no trusted public programming. It’s not just about losing content — it’s about losing connection. Please take action now to ensure this doesn’t happen. Protect public radio before it’s too late. Oppose rescission and support continued public media funding.

Sincerely,
_____________
