Trump’s Vindictive Nature Rescinds $600 Million from 4 Democratic States!
The Trump administration plans to rescind about $600 million in public health funding from four Democratic-led states—California, Colorado, Illinois, and Minnesota—arguing that the grants are “inconsistent with agency priorities.” The funds, administered through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, support a wide range of public health functions, including staffing, data modernization, outbreak management, and programs serving specific communities. Nearly two-thirds of the affected funding consists of unspent allocations to California’s state and local health departments. Some cuts will take effect immediately, with others rolling out over the coming weeks.
Many of the terminated grants focus on H.I.V. prevention, sexually transmitted infections, and programs aimed at marginalized populations. Notable cuts include funding to the American Medical Association, Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, the University of California, San Francisco, and the Colorado Health Network. Former C.D.C. officials and public health experts have criticized the move, noting that Congress had already appropriated the funds and warning that the cuts could weaken community preparedness amid ongoing health threats such as measles outbreaks. The decision aligns with a recent shift in C.D.C. priorities away from disease programs targeting specific populations, a change the agency says better reflects its current goals.
If the planet is getting warmer, why is it so cold this winter?
Trump and his administration love to joke and ask where global warming is during these freezing cold times of year. Sadly, they are too ignorant to understand the science behind climate change and how it actually works.
While it is seemingly contradictory, there is a scientific explanation to this “Big Freeze” we have been having. According to this article in the New York Times, “The idea, explained Dr. Judah Cohen of MIT, is that a warming Arctic can cause a high-altitude ribbon of air called the polar vortex to stretch and wobble. That wobble can affect the flow of the jet stream that controls much of the atmospheric conditions over the United States, causing waves of high and low pressure that affect our daily weather.” Essentially, as the Arctic area of the globe warms up, it pushes the cold jet stream downward into non-Arctic areas. This is the same issue that happened in 2021 causing Texas to experience unprecedented freezing weather.

While there is a bit of disagreement amongst scientists regarding the polar vortex wobble link to the Big Freeze we are experiencing, there is an understanding that long-term warming is changing seasonal weather patterns. While some places are warming, others are getting colder. This makes me think of Newton’s Third Law of Motion: “For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.” What do you think?
