iEat Green Shares Interview with Author and Activist, Frances Moore-Lappé, on the 50th Anniversary of Her Book, “Diet for a Small Planet”

Hi Everyone,

This past Thursday I interviewed Frances Moore-Lappé about the release of the 50th Anniversary edition of her book, Diet for a Small Planet. For those of you who have not heard my story before, Diet for a Small Planet was the book that first inspired me to follow a vegetarian diet more than 45 years ago. It was the first book that connected the dots between the industrial process of raising livestock, the myth of food scarcity, the impact of industrial farming on our environment, and our health. Since publishing the first edition of the book, Frances has continued to work towards a more just food system for everyone. She is responsible for starting the think tank, Food First, and co-founding the Small Planet Institute with her daughter Anna Lappé. Her most recent work has been focusing on democracy as the “umbrella” for all of the issues we all care about, since true democracy gives the power to the people.

Living Democracy, a mission of the Small Planet Institute, strives to promote three social conditions: wide dispersion of power, transparency in public affairs, and a culture of mutual accountability. In order to help raise our voices and to give more power to the people, they have brought together many organizations to form the Democracy Movement. Check them out and find a cause you want to fight for in your state. Together we can change the world!!!
