iEat Green is Celebrating 10 Years at PRN, and Will Be Taking the Month of August Off! Jennifer Gaddis, Author of “The Labor of Lunch” Returns to PRN for Part 2 of the Conversation on the National School Lunch Program!

Hi Everyone,

I hope you are all managing to stay safe and navigating our new normal with the Covid-19 Pandemic looming over our heads. I know it is a challenge, and it seems like it will be with us for a while, so keep your immune system strong, practice social distancing and wear your mask.

After ten years at the Progressive Radio Network, I have decided to take a little break, and give myself the month of August off. I am looking forward to more time in the garden, seeing as many friends as possible, (while we can enjoy the outdoors, and maintain our social distancing) and experimenting with new ingredients and recipes. I will return the first week of September with my newsletter and regular Thursday programming.

But, before I go, I hope you can join us this Thursday for a continuation of a great conversation I had last week.

Jennifer Gaddis, Author of, The Labor of Lunch, Returns to the Progressive Radio Network to Continue the Conversation on Our National School Lunch Program!

Jennifer Gaddis is an assistant professor of Civil Society and Community Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the author of The Labor of Lunch: Why We Need Real Food and Real Jobs in American Public Schools (University of California Press 2019). She received a PhD in environmental studies from Yale University in 2014. Her research on school lunch programs has appeared in numerous journals, including Feminist Economics and the Journal of Agriculture, Food Systems, and Community Development, and in popular media outlets such as the New York Times, Washington Post, USA Today, and Teen Vogue.

Last week, we had such a great conversation, but there was so much we didn’t get to cover, that I asked Jennifer if she would be willing to come back. We are both so passionate about the National School Lunch Program and it’s potential, that we could go on for hours! Please join us as we continue our conversation, and find out what you can do to help the National School Lunch Program become an extension of the classroom, where real food is served, and health, nutrition, and social and environmental justice are modeled.
