Slow Food East End’s Halloween weekend potluck welcomes back its “Know Your Farmer” educational series for the 2016 Fall / Winter season. The kickoff will spotlight The Long island Cheese Pumpkin Project, one of the many awareness campaigns of The Long Island Regional Seed Consortium (LIRSC).

The LI Cheese Pumpkin has been slowly disappearing from commercial seed catalogs since the 1970’s and is currently listed among the 200 foods in Slow Food USA’s “Ark of Taste.” Speakers will include Stephanie Gaylor & Cheryl Frey of Invincible Summer Farms and the LIRSC, and Ken Ettlinger who saved the Long Island Cheese Pumpkin seed.
Slow Food East End is proud to be one of the “ambassadors” of the Long Island Cheese Pumpkin by helping to save this indigenous species.
